Prayers for a Star Named Stella

Image-1
I’d like to introduce you to our newborn daughter, Stella. “Stella” is Latin for “star.” Besides simply liking the name as we prayed through what to name our daughter, my wife and I were reminded of a couple of passages representing our prayers for our little “star” as she grows.

We are praying that she’d become like what Paul describes in Philippians 2:14-16: “blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life…”

Stella, may you shine like a bright star as you walk blamelessly and purely while holding out the Word of Life.

Secondly, Daniel 12:3 says, “Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness like the stars for ever and ever.”

Stella, may you shine brightly as you lead many to righteousness for ever and ever.

As I held Stella in my arms the night she was born, the Lord pressed the word peacemaker on my mind regarding what her life would be. Interestingly, the lead into the Philippians passage above is that we would do everything “without complaining or arguing” and thus become “blameless and pure,” etc.

Lord Jesus, may Stella become a peacemaker. May she shine like a bright star as she seeks to hold out your word and bring peace wherever she goes. May she shine brightly as she leads many to righteousness for ever and ever.

Stella, I know that I will fail you and will need to seek your forgiveness often. Nonetheless, I will do my best to set you up to accomplish the plan Jesus has for you. Jesus, I can’t accomplish this plan for her, but You can. Please draw her heart to yours and show her the way. In Jesus powerful name, Amen.
