Giving thanks to God has become the primary way I enter into prayer every day, but it didn’t used to be that way.
A friend of mine, Alex Absalom, was on our staff several years ago. He always had us start our prayer meetings by going around and sharing something we were thankful for. He infused thanksgiving into our staff culture and something began to change in my heart.
I was giving thanks less out of discipline, and more out of habit. Then it became a posture of my heart. I was more joyful, content, and filled with gratitude on a daily basis.
Every year since then I have loved the month leading up to Thanksgiving. Even though I’ve thanked God all year, I get so excited to intentionally spend a month in thanksgiving to God as we lead up to Thanksgiving Day.
The purpose of this post is to supply you with this Thanksgiving Devo I wrote. It’s simple – each day has a thanksgiving themed scripture with a prompt to help you spend time in God’s presence that day.
My encouragement to you is to try this starting November 1st. Psalm 100:4 says, “Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise.” If you want to spend time in the presence of God, the gate you enter through is by giving thanks to Him. Try giving Him thanks this November and see what happens.
